Kuttanad Package Alappuzha (Alleppey) and Kerala, India

Kuttanad Package is a Rs.1,840-crore project , recommended by the M.S.

Swaminathan Commission, headed by renowned agriculture scientist M.S. Swaminathan for the conservation and development the kuttanad region,which is onlythe second place in the world where agriculture is done below sea level.
Dr. Swaminathan, in his report, had suggested promoting Kuttanad as a SpecialAgricultural Zone on the lines of SEZs.

In the first phase irrigation projects worth Rs.343 crore will be taken up under the
Union government's flood management and control scheme.

Construction of outer bunds and development of ‘padasekharams' (polders) of the Cand D Blocks
Renovation of the Alappuzha-Changanassery Road and the Rani, Chithira ‘kayal padasekharams'.
